Mission Statement
Born in Kahnawake, QC
Based in Montreal, QC
Hi, I’m Wyler Diome Montour. I’m a Mohawk multimedia artist, and soon to be graduate of Parsons School of Art and Design. I’ve had a bit of an interesting road - after focusing on elite athletics in both lacrosse and hockey through my teenage years, my injuries sidelined me and I found myself a little lost before pivoting towards the arts. Long story short, I took a gap year to work as a cinematographer, co-founded a film production company, and fell in love with music. When everything is said and done I will have finished my degree with a BFA in Integrated Design, and a pathway in contemporary music, though I also transferred in from photography. My hope is to help others, and my degree is all about creative solutions with an emphasis on community engagement, whether that’s in theory or through tactile implementation. My identity as a Mohawk designer is also hugely important to me, and in direct correlation, the prospect of working with Indigenous people stands as a primary concern. That being said, I want to give assistance in developing the necessary tools for helping one’s own community, rather than developing a dependence on outside sources. I’d like to decolonize the design process and I’d like to think my inner child would look up to my current self, whenever that current might be.
